Windows: Past, Present, Future

Windows Vista is being adopted by more and more businesses, with usage by businesses up 40% since January. However, that’s still less than expected. In fact, it’s less than 10% of the companies surveyed by Forrester Research. And most of the business installs of Vista are from companies migrating from versions other than XP, which remains the most popular edition. Despite this demand, sales of Windows XP through Microsoft have been discontinued. (SoftwareMedia still has Windows XP in stock, for those interested). Looking to the future, Windows 7 development is on track and still slated for a January 2010 release. Microsoft remains relatively mum on Windows 7, in contrast to its pre-Vista strategy.
