Microsoft’s Genuine Software Initiative

Saturday, April 1st, 2006

If the piracy rate were to drop 25%, Microsoft would create as many as 2.4 million new jobs, $400 billion in economic growth and $67 billion in tax revenues worldwide. It comes as no surprise, then, that Microsoft is focusing such an effort on catching counterfeit users. The “Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications” (WGA) tool checks for genuine copies when customers use Microsoft update, and counterfeit users will see pop-up messages notifying them of their illegal copy. This month, Mircrosoft announced it will add Office to its initiative. Visit Microsoft.
