Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition is recommended for organizations that require higher availability through fail over and clustering. It provides the core Office Communications Server functionality of enterprise IM, Presence, Web conferencing, application sharing, and software-powered VoIP while allowing for these server roles to be installed on separate servers.
The Office Communications Server Enterprise CAL is an additive CAL that provides access to on-premise Web conferencing, software powered VoIP, and application sharing. User CALs are likely to be more cost effective than Device CALs if there are multiple devices per user (for example, a user has a laptop and handheld computer accessing OCS)
Office Communications Server 2007 is licensed in the Server/Client Access License (CAL) model. Under this model, a Server License is required for each operating system environment running Office Communications Server 2007. A CAL is required for each user or device accessing Office Communications Server 2007. A minimum of 5 CALs is required.
