Microsoft Open Value Guide
Microsoft Open Value allows you to purchase or lease perpetual licenses so you never have to worry about your term ending or having outdated software. Open Value is very affordable and offers different payment plans depending on your needs. With an entry requirement of just 5 licenses, even small businesses can take advantage of the Open Value program. Open Value offers the advantages of Microsoft Software Assurance (SA), which combines a broad range of benefits including rights to new software versions, training, deployment services and support.

Within Open Value, there are 3 options: Open Value, Open Value Subscription, and Open Value Level C.

Payment Options:
1. Microsoft Open Value
With Open Value you have the option to either pay in full at the time of purchase or you can pay over 2 or 3 years. After that period, you own the license forever. Software Assurance (SA) is included the first three years. Afterwards, you have the option to add-on another 3 year term of SA or pay nothing and go without. Software Assurance is Microsoft's maintenance plan which comes with 24 hour support along with access to new versions that are released during your term. If you want to make sure that you're always working with the latest release of your software, make sure to keep up on the Software Assurance.
2. Open Value Subscription
Another option is Open Value Subscription where you actually lease the license instead of purchasing. Basically you pay a set amount once a year for 3 years. After that, you then have the choice to pay nothing and terminate your license, continue with your payment, or buy-out the lease. The entire time you are leasing, you are provided with Software Assurance (SA) so that if any new versions of your software are released, you have access to them for free. One of the benefits of Open Value Subscription is lower annual payments compared to the generally higher payments of purchasing Open Value. Generally if you're planning on paying off your licenses in one or two years, it may make the most sense to go through Open Value. If you're planning on paying over three or more years, it may make more sense to lease the licenses through Open Value Subscription. Note, pricing varies from product to product - talk to our Microsoft Certified Professionals about the licenses you're interested in to see what would work best for you.
3. Open Value Level C
An additional price point is available for companies ordering large orders of at least 250 licenses.
