"The best toolbox and enhancements."
Strengths: You can do work more efficiently with this version of visual studio than with previous releases. It is very user friendly and compiles code fast. If you want to use both the old and new CLRs, then this is the last release to support it.
Weaknesses: There are some compiler antics that could catch you off guard during debugging like if statements not executing correctly on an off and on basis unless you specify the condition explicitly with an operator. Example: if (function()) should be replaced with if (function() == true). Otherwise the compiler will behave like a camel. It will take whichever direction it likes and lets you come along. Another weakness is that the old CLR doesn't provide all the functionality that the new CLR includes. C++ coding with the old CLR will only get you so far with this compiler!
Comments: Why would I want to relearn new syntax when what I have already learned works like a charm? I don't like the changes in the new CLR, especially the fact that it doesn't support C++.

Strengths: Provides a consolidated development environment for the creation of any .NET application, (web, windows app, console app, windows service, etc.), minimizes the amount of code the developer is required to write, integrates with most source control applications
Weaknesses: Sometimes the automated code is bloated however in most cases it is beneficial to the junior developer as it will provide good example code.
Comments: A must have for any .NET developer
