Advanced PHP Programmer

Software Media is seeking an advanced PHP Programmer to join the development team. Candidate should have a good grasp of OOP principles, design standards, and experience.

Required and Suggested Skills:

  1. Expert PHP Programmer
    • Template engines (Smarty)
    • ORM understanding (Propel)
    • Experience using frameworks such as Zend, Symphony, Prado, CakePHP, Kohana, etc.
    • Knowledge of PHP5 Object Oriented Programming
  2. Expert with SQL using MySQL 5
  3. Experience using Linux, such as Ubuntu, Redhat, or Debian
  4. Experience with Apache, Apache2 and hosts setup

Network Administrator / IT Manager

SoftwareMedia.com is seeking a full-time Network Administrator / IT Manager. This individual will install, setup, and monitor local area network (LAN). Perform a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, and training tasks to ensure LAN performance meets company and user requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be proficient Microsoft Server Products i.e. Windows 2003 Server. Must have clear understanding of Active Directory i.e. managing users, security groups, and group policies.
  • Must have a understanding of login scripting. VBScript knowledge a plus but not required
  • Must be proficient in Domain Name Servers (DNS). Adding, removing, managing zones and their records.
  • Must be proficient with Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP). Adding, removing, and managing reservations.
  • Must have understanding network security, firewalls, and network routing. Must be proficient in Microsoft ISA server firewall / proxy.
  • Must have understanding of backup solutions. Must be proficient in Symantec Backup Exec.
  • Must have understanding in corporate anti-virus solutions. Knowledge in Symantec Antivirus corporate edition a plus.
  • Must have understanding of telecommunications. Knowledge in Intertel phone systems a plus.
  • Linux knowledge a benefit but not a must.
  • Must be team oriented. Work well with other employees and vendors. Must be able to manage employees.
  • Administer network workstations, utilizing one or more TCP/IP or non-TCP/IP networking protocols and/or one or more UNIX-based or non-UNIX based operating systems.
  • Evaluate and/or recommend purchases of computers, network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software;
  • Investigate user problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test and implement solutions.
  • Maintain site licenses for department/organization.
  • Troubleshoot networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
  • Develop and conduct various training and instruction for system users on operating systems, relational databases, and other applications; assist users in maximizing use of networks and computing systems.
  • Identify utilization patterns and their effect on operation/system availability and performance expectations.
  • Anticipate communication and networking problems and implement preventive measures.
  • Establish and perform maintenance programs following company and vendor standards.
  • Ensure timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability.
  • Investigate, recommend and install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.
  • Document network problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of a range of computer networking systems and languages to include Windows, Linux, or similar computer networks. Knowledge of computing and network hardware and peripheral equipment. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel. Ability to install, configure, and maintain personal computers, networks, and related hardware and software. Knowledge of federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of computer software. Knowledge of computer and/or network security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques. Ability to identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Ability to provide technical training to end users. Ability to learn and support new systems and applications. Work with users requires interpersonal skills. This is normally acquired through a combination of a Bachelor's Degree and three to five years of networking experience.
Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work requires extensive work using a computer. Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported.

Customer Service Rep

We are seeking a Full Time Customer Service Representative to assist the team. SoftwareMedia prides itself for online convenience, but stands out in the industry by providing customers with a live person to talk to if they have questions or concerns. We carry thousands of software programs from names like Adobe, Corel, Intuit, Norton and Microsoft. The products are constantly evolving, thus the job will remain exciting from day to day. No prior software knowledge is necessary, though basic knowledge would be a plus. Training will be provided.

Candidate should have good typing skills, phone skills and basic knowledge of programs like Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook (email). Position is in Downtown SLC, M-F, 9-5:30.
